Horsemanship skills
I have 12 years of horse experience and training in both western and english styles of riding. 3 years of time in the show ring and countless hours perfecting western equitation and training horses in this style of riding has given me an excellent base to teach others the core concepts of the sport. Basic care for a variety of breeds and personalities of horses as well as barn maintenance has been learned through over 10 years of working for the Double C Ranch in Ada, MI both in paid and volunteer positions. I have also spent many years as a mentor for riders of all skill levels, coaching them at shows and advising ways to improve their relationship with their horse and fellow riders. (See details in experience log) Guest Services and Teaching Skills My experience working as a program director at a township park has taught me many skills necessary to provide a clear and confident communication and polite interactions with guests of any age. I have primarily worked with teaching children and young adults however courses such as RE261, RE251, and RE356 have provided opportunities to practice teaching my peers and other adults. I have also completed my Level 1 Alpine Skiing Certification in which I have worked with adults of various generations to explain a somewhat counter-intuitive skill (skiing) that most beginners are nervous about, much like horseback riding. I am also WFR certified should something happen to a guest or fellow staff member on a trail ride. |
